"Ghostly Goldenlove In The Country Graveyard Ouija Board"
August 5th, 2003, acrylic on masonite
My interest in sportsbetting and causing/predicting outcomes through painting voodoo boards led me to an interest in Ouija Boards. All of a sudden I became inspired by this new muse I called "Ghostly Goldenlove" who told me to make a few Ouija Boards. He is the figure in the center with a heart for a head and tree branches for arms. He is a variation on the Christ icon but he represents a sort of deviation from the notion of communion which is POSSESSION. "Communion with Christ" or just the idea of communion in general, often seems to denote a "mutual deep knowing" of one another, a "becoming one" with one another but in the sense of a symbiosis (or even essentially what is a superficial pantomime in most Christian churches these days)where the identity of someone is not lost. Possession, on the other hand, and what Ghostly Goldenlove represents, is the complete taking over of a person by a spirit. This can be seen as a positive or negative evolution, depending on how you look at it. While my interest in making Ouija Boards was short-lived, Ghostly Goldenlove did give me some insights on a few things and I thank him for it.
